Sacrament of Baptism

“Baptism is the first and chief sacrament of the forgiveness of sins: it unites us to Christ, who died and rose, and gives us the Holy Spirit.” - Catechism of the Catholic Church 985

Through Baptism, the human person is washed clean of original sin and restored to the image and likeness of God. The parish welcomes families into the St. Ambrose community with a preparation class prior to the Sacrament of Baptism of their child.

Parents

Parents must be registered, practicing members of St. Ambrose parish.  Practicing the faith includes active participation at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.

First-time expectant parents must attend an instruction class on the Sacrament of Baptism.  These classes are offered the first Saturday of every month in the Parish Library. Please call the Parish Office to register for a class.

A  Baptism Registration Form must be filled out and turned into the Parish Office.  This information is used to identify the child to be baptized, prepare a baptismal certificate and record the Baptism in our sacramental record book.  Please be accurate with the information and the spelling of names.

Godparents

If you have been asked to be a Godparent, the Godparent Eligibility Statement needs to be filled out, signed and submitted to the Parish Office.  In addition, we must receive a letter from your pastor stating that you are a Catholic in good standing. This letter must include their church seal.  No faxed or photo copied letters will be accepted.

If you have any questions regarding baptisms, please contact Donna Vasilakos at the Parish Office at 703-280-4400.
